LANDSCAPE DESIGN FOR CHINA NATIONAL OFFSHORE OIL CORPORATION (CNOOC) HEADQUARTERS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

　　A CONSIDERATION OF "BORROWING"

　　The CNOOC Headquarters building is an impressive building with a striking facade and consequently the areas radiating from the building have been constructed to reflect that facade.

　　Paved pathways together with adjacent pathways have been constructed and interspaced with grassed strips to complement the overall presence of the building itself.

　　Two clearings have been transformed into outdoor recreational spaces highlighting a simple composition.

　　Trees and ground cover establish a connection between the dynamic and static. Shrubs also seek to maintain this balance and connection with regard to vegetation. Scattered areas around the rim of the whole area have been transformed into casual green spaces in an attempt to relieve the area of any rigidity or straightness.

　　There has been no intentional desire to produce any exaggerated expression or unconventional shape design but simply to complement the bearing of the building together with its intrinsic characteristics and form.

　　The ultimate consideration with regard to the entirety of detail has been "a consideration of borrowing".
